CM Mann warns against voter deletions in Punjab, targets PM Modi over austerity appeal

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said his government and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would not allow voters’ names to be removed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Punjab and would approach the courts if required.

Speaking to reporters while flagging off a batch of 72 teachers heading to Finland for training along with Punjab education minister Harjot Singh Bains, Mann said the trained principals and teachers would help strengthen the state’s education system and serve as ambassadors of the “education revolution” in Punjab.

During the interaction, Mann also took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over recent public appeals related to fuel conservation and reduced spending.

The Punjab CM criticised calls to reduce fuel use, avoid gold purchases and limit foreign travel, questioning whether even the Prime Minister could work from home.

Mann further attacked the Centre over the recent hike in petrol and diesel prices, saying the increase would place additional burden on common citizens.

He also mocked what he described as symbolic public campaigns, referring to earlier calls made during national crises, and alleged that the government was trying to divert attention from larger issues.

The chief minister further claimed that restrictions and economic pressures were being imposed domestically while other countries were not facing similar measures.
