Ludhiana: A 50-year-old school principal was allegedly murdered at his residence in Ludhiana late on Sunday night. The victim’s son told police that two unidentified men entered their house, held both of them hostage, assaulted them and then fatally attacked his father with a sharp-edged weapon.
The deceased has been identified as Iqbal Singh, who ran Dhaliwal School, an educational institution up to Class 8, from his residence. Police said a deep cut mark was found on his neck during the initial examination.
According to the victim’s son, Yuvi, the attackers barged into the house late at night, tied up both father and son, stripped them partially and assaulted them. He alleged that the assailants later attacked his father with a sharp weapon, leading to his death.
After the attackers fled, Yuvi raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to the house and inform the police. Teams from Jamalpur Police Station and the CIA staff reached the spot and began an investigation.
Yuvi told police that his father was a lawyer by profession and also operated Dhaliwal School from their home.
Police said the motive behind the murder is not yet clear and the case is being investigated from multiple angles. The victim’s wife is currently in Bhopal to appear for a law examination. The post-mortem will be conducted after her return.
Investigators have collected evidence from the crime scene and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the suspects and establish the circumstances surrounding the murder.
