Chandigarh: A shocking incident has emerged from Punjab’s Mansa district, where a man allegedly murdered his nine-month pregnant wife, resulting in the death of her unborn twins.
The incident took place on Friday night in Thuthianwali village. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Simarjeet Kaur, who had married Sachpreet Singh of Burj Rathi village in 2025 against the wishes of both families.
According to the victim’s family, the accused arrived at his wife’s parental home and, on the pretext of talking to her, called her outside to the bathroom area, where he allegedly slit her throat with a sharp-edged weapon.
Family members alleged that Sachpreet frequently doubted Simarjeet’s character and claimed that the unborn children were not his. They said he had repeatedly assaulted her over the issue before the couple separated and she returned to her parents’ home.
Relatives said Simarjeet was carrying twins, and her murder also claimed the lives of the two unborn babies.
The victim’s uncle Mewa Singh and cousin Mandeep Singh said the family had initially opposed the marriage but eventually agreed because of Simarjeet’s insistence. They alleged that disputes and physical abuse began soon after the wedding due to the accused’s suspicion about her character.
The family has demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and the strictest possible punishment. Police have launched an investigation into the case.
