Zirakpur: Tension prevailed in the Nagla area of Zirakpur on Thursday after members of a cow protection group intercepted a truck and alleged that it was transporting beef.
Police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident, seized the vehicle and initiated an investigation. Members of several Hindu organisations also gathered at the location and staged a protest, demanding strict action against those responsible if the allegations are found to be true.
According to members of the cow protection group, a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a large quantity of meat, which they claimed was beef. The activists subsequently handed over the truck to the police and later held a demonstration outside the police station.
Protesters called for a thorough investigation into the matter and urged authorities to take stringent legal action against anyone found violating the law.
Police officials said samples of the seized meat would be examined and that further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation. Authorities have appealed for calm and urged people not to draw conclusions until the forensic examination and official inquiry are completed.
