Punjab E News (May 29): In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has busted an illegal arms smuggling module with the arrest of three accused persons and recovered five .32 bore pistols along with nine magazines and 22 live cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Friday.
Those arrested have been identified as Manjot Singh, a resident of village Dhesian in Gurdaspur; Sandeep Singh, a resident of village Jagowal in Gurdaspur; and Amandeep Singh alias Aman, a resident of village Bhaini Paswal in Gurdaspur.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the module is involved in illegal arms smuggling within Punjab. Further investigation is underway to establish both backward and forward linkages and completely dismantle the entire illegal arms network, he said.
Sharing operational details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Dhanpreet Kaur said that acting on reliable inputs, police team has apprehended suspect Manjot Singh from near Bus Stand Jalandhar and recovered one .32 bore pistol from his possession.
In his disclosure statement, arrested accused Manjot revealed the involvement of his two accomplices— Sandeep and Amandeep— in this module, she said, while adding that acting swiftly, police teams have arrested the duo from village Bhaini Paswal in Gurdaspur.
The CP said that further on the disclosure of arrested accused Amandeep, police teams have recovered four more .32 bore pistols along with eight magazines and 18 live cartridges concealed near Dhusi Bundh at village Bhaini Paswal in Gurdaspur. More arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days as the investigation progresses, she added.
In this regard, a case FIR no. 153 dated 25/5/2026 under section 25 (1-B)A of the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Division-6 in Jalandhar Commissionerate.
