New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday slammed the Congress for questioning External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s remarks on Operation Sindoor, accusing the opposition party of trusting US President Donald Trump over India’s own government.
Taking a sharp dig during a brief intervention in the Lok Sabha, Shah said, “They (the Congress) don’t have faith in the External Affairs Minister who took oath as a member of the Government of India. They trust another country.”
“That is why they are sitting in the opposition and will remain there for another 20 years,” he added, drawing loud reactions from the Treasury benches.
Shah’s comments came as Jaishankar was addressing the House regarding India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack under Operation Sindoor.
The External Affairs Minister had earlier clarified that there was no mediation by the United States during the India-Pakistan standoff, countering Trump’s claim that he had helped de-escalate the situation.
Highlighting the opposition’s attitude, Shah said, “I know the importance of videsh (foreign opinion) in my party, but that does not mean such thinking should be imposed on Parliament.”
The remarks added to the ruling BJP’s offensive against the Congress for raising doubts about the government’s handling of cross-border terrorism and the credibility of Jaishankar’s statements in Parliament.
