BJP Spreading Lies on SDRF Funds; Why is Jakhar Silent on the Meager Flood Relief Package from the Centre
Punjab E News (Pawan Dhupar): Neel Garg, Senior spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab, has termed the statement made by BJP’s Punjab president Sunil Jakhar regarding SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) as completely misleading and far from facts. He said that it has always been the habit of BJP leaders to speak lies, twist facts, and divert people’s attention from the real issues.
Reacting sharply to Jakhar’s statement, Neel Garg said his claim that “Punjab has been given ₹12,000 crore under SDRF” is just another failed attempt to mislead the people. He said that the BJP itself is in power at the Centre and has access to all the data. Therefore, Jakhar should present the facts before the people of Punjab.
Questioning Sunil Jakhar, Neel Garg said that the SDRF was established in 2010-11. “Tell Punjabis how much contribution the central government has made to Punjab’s SDRF fund from 2010 to 2025? Present the year-wise figures for 2010, 2011, 2012, and so on till 2025. If you cannot give this data, then at least stop misleading the people of Punjab,” Garg said.
Reminding Jakhar, Garg said that the BJP, of which he is now the president, had a coalition government in Punjab with Akali Dal from 2007 to 2017. After that, Congress ruled the state from 2017 to 2022, during which Jakhar himself was Congress’s state president. “So you should have all the figures of the SDRF funds,” Garg added.
Neel Garg further said that on one hand, Jakhar calls himself the messiah of Punjab and son of a farmer. But when floods caused losses worth thousands of crores in Punjab, lakhs of cattle died, and crops in over lakhs of acres were completely destroyed, the Prime Minister came to Punjab and announced a meager relief package of only ₹1600 crore. “Why didn’t Jakhar even whisper a word against this? Why didn’t he tell the Prime Minister then that this package is like rubbing salt on the wounds of Punjab?” Garg asked.
Neel Garg appealed to Jakhar to stop repeating the false claim of ₹12,000 crore and tell the people of Punjab the real amount contributed by the central government to the SDRF from 2010 to 2025.
