Jalandhar: At least 10 panchayats from villages near Adampur in Jalandhar district have passed resolutions to restrict the rights of migrant labourers. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting held in Daroli Kalan village, attended by representatives of several nearby panchayats.
The resolutions include stopping the issuance of Aadhaar and voter cards for migrants and removing the names of those already on voter lists. It was also decided that migrants would not be allowed to move around villages or intersections at night.
The panchayats further resolved that migrants would not receive support during festivals and that villagers must not sell property or houses to them. Any violation of this would be the responsibility of the individual concerned.
Jathedar Manohar Singh, addressing the meeting, said that a larger gathering of 25 to 30 villages would be convened soon to frame a future strategy on issues related to migrant labourers.
