BRISBANE: India defeated Australia 2-1 in the five-match T20 series after the final game at The Gabba was abandoned due to rain on Saturday. The first match of the series had also ended without a result.
Australia captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first. India got off to a solid start, reaching 52 for no loss in 4.5 overs before the weather turned. Opener Abhishek Sharma was unbeaten on 23 and Shubman Gill on 29 when play was halted. Lightning forced the evacuation of some stands, followed by heavy rain that continued for nearly two hours, leading to the match being called off.
Earlier in the series, India secured victories in the third and fourth matches, while Australia won the second encounter.
Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Series for his impressive performance, scoring 163 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 161.38, including one half-century.
