South Africa secure 30-run win against India in first Test

New Delhi: South Africa defeated India by 30 runs on the third day of the first Test on Sunday and took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Chasing a target of 124 runs, India were bowled out for 93 in 35 overs.

Skipper Shubman Gill did not come out to bat due to a neck injury. Washington Sundar was the top scorer for India with 31 runs. Off-spinner Simon Harmer took four wickets for South Africa.

Earlier, South Africa scored 153 runs in their second innings and set India a 124-run target. Skipper Temba Bavuma scored an unbeaten 55. Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets for India.

South Africa had made 159 runs in their first innings and India took a 30-run lead after scoring 189 in reply.
