Chandigarh: After the Rajya Sabha Secretariat approved the merger of seven MPs from the Aam Aadmi Party with the Bharatiya Janata Party, the party has now turned its attention to keeping its 94 MLAs united.
Emergency meeting in Jalandhar
Sources said the party high command has called a crucial meeting of MLAs in Jalandhar on Wednesday. The meeting will be led by Manish Sisodia, who is in charge of Punjab affairs.
The focus will be on strengthening the organisation and preventing further cracks within the party.
Concern over organisational structure
With Sandeep Pathak having built the party’s grassroots network, leaders are now worried about potential damage to the cadre base. MLAs will be guided on how to keep the organisation intact and maintain connect with workers.
Watch on ‘vulnerable’ MLAs
Party insiders revealed that special attention is being given to MLAs from regions like Ferozepur, Patiala and Ropar, particularly those who were earlier backed by Raghav Chadha or Pathak during the 2022 elections.
Trusted legislators have reportedly been tasked with closely monitoring the activities, meetings and travel of these “sensitive” colleagues.
Damage control mode
While the initial shock of MPs’ exit has subsided, AAP is now in full damage-control mode, aiming to prevent further defections and stabilise its political and organisational structure ahead of future challenges.
