Ludhiana: A year-and-a-half-old love affair in Ludhiana ended in a shocking case of alleged honour killing after a young man was kidnapped and beaten to death by the family members of his girlfriend.
According to police, the girl’s family had earlier warned the couple several times and even took the matter to a village panchayat, but the two continued meeting each other. The family later married the woman off elsewhere, but her relationship with the youth allegedly continued, eventually leading to her divorce.
After the woman returned to her parental home, the couple reportedly met again, which enraged her family.
Police said the woman’s brother, along with other relatives, allegedly abducted the youth and assaulted him inside a moving car for nearly 12 kilometres. The victim was reportedly beaten so brutally that he died inside the vehicle itself.
To mislead investigators, the accused allegedly dumped the body near a roadside wall and crashed the victim’s scooter against the wall to make the murder appear like a road accident.
However, police became suspicious after noticing multiple injury marks on the body, which led to the exposure of the entire murder plot.
Police have arrested the woman’s brother, described as the mastermind behind the killing, while raids are underway to trace the other accused relatives involved in the crime.
