Chandigarh Police has uncovered an interstate illegal arms supply network and arrested three suspects allegedly involved in providing weapons and logistical support to local criminal elements operating in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula.

The arrests were made by the Operation Cell amid concerns over a rise in firing incidents and gang-related activity across the Tricity region. Police recovered one pistol, two country-made firearms and two live cartridges from the accused.

According to investigators, the operation was launched after officials received information about a group supplying weapons to local offenders. Acting on the tip-off, the Operation Cell arrested 23-year-old Abhyas alias Abhishek, a resident of Mauli Jagran, near the BSNL turn in Phase-2. A search allegedly led to the recovery of a country-made pistol and two live cartridges.

A case under relevant provisions of the Arms Act was registered at Sector-31 police station.

During interrogation, Abhyas allegedly disclosed details about two associates linked to the illegal arms network. Based on his information, police arrested 20-year-old Vikas alias Batti from near the CTU workshop T-point in Sector 43 on June 10. Officers said a country-made firearm was recovered from his possession.

On June 15, police arrested another suspect, 20-year-old Tayyab alias Chetan, near the slip road at Kishangarh Chowk. Investigators said a country-made firearm was also recovered from him.

Police records indicate that Abhyas has multiple criminal cases registered against him, including allegations related to attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, criminal intimidation, attacks on public servants and offences under the Arms Act. Cases against him are reportedly registered in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula.

Vikas is also facing several criminal cases, including allegations of attempted murder, assault, intimidation, illegal possession of weapons and involvement in gang-related activities.

The third accused, Tayyab, is reportedly linked to a case involving robbery and theft in Panchkula. Police said further investigations are underway to identify other members of the network and trace possible arms supply routes.
