Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting the immediate reopening of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor linking India with Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur.
In his letter, Dhami said the corridor holds immense religious significance for Sikhs worldwide, as it provides access to the holy site where Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent the final years of his life and preached the message of humanity, honest living, and sharing with others.
He noted that the opening of the corridor in November 2019 during the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji fulfilled a long-standing aspiration of the Sikh community. However, the suspension of movement through the corridor due to security-related concerns has caused disappointment among devotees across the world.
Dhami urged the Central Government to treat the matter on priority and direct the concerned ministries to take the necessary diplomatic and administrative measures for the immediate reopening of the Kartarpur Corridor, describing it as a matter of respect for the religious sentiments of millions of Sikh devotees.
He expressed hope that the Government of India would consider the appeal with sensitivity so that pilgrims can once again offer prayers at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur.
