    Disproportionate assets case registered against sacked DSP Gursher Singh Sandhu, mother

    Chandigarh: The Vigilance Bureau has registered a case of disproportionate assets against sacked DSP Gursher Singh Sandhu and his mother, Sukhwant Kaur, in connection with the Lawrence Bishnoi interview case.

    The case has been filed by Flying Squad 1 of the Vigilance Bureau after discrepancies were found in their income and expenditure records over the past three years.

    According to officials, while Gursher Singh received a salary of only Rs 26 lakh during this period, he and his family spent around Rs 2.59 crore, including Rs 1.83 crore shown as income by his mother. The family’s total income during the period was found to be around Rs 2.67 crore, and they also repaid a loan of Rs 63 lakh.

    The Vigilance Bureau has initiated an investigation to trace the sources of this income and is conducting raids to locate the sacked DSP.

    However, sources said that Gursher Singh has fled abroad and a red corner notice has already been issued to trace and arrest him.

    Rupnagar: A 27-year-old toll plaza employee, Kamalpreet Kaur, suffered serious injuries after being run over by a tipper driver at the Solakhian toll plaza in Rupnagar.

    According to Suleman, manager of Kurali Toll Road Limited at Solakhian, the incident occurred when the driver ran over Kamalpreet in a bid to save the slip at the toll lane.

    She was first rushed to the civil hospital in Rupnagar and later referred to PGI Chandigarh due to her critical condition, where doctors had to amputate her right arm.

    Jarnail Singh, the investigating officer at Singh Bhagwantpur police station, said that Kamalpreet’s statement could not be recorded as her condition remains serious. Further investigation is underway.

    Law student allegedly raped inside Kolkata college, three arrested

    Kolkata: A female student of South Calcutta Law College was allegedly raped by a former student inside the college premises, with two senior students of the institution accused of aiding him in the act, police said on Friday.

    According to officials, the incident came to light on Friday. All three accused have been arrested and produced before a court, which remanded them in police custody for four days. Police said the process of recording the victim’s confidential statement before a judicial magistrate is underway.

    Sources in the college said the main accused is a former student who is currently practising as a criminal lawyer at the Alipore police and sessions court. Police confirmed that the other two accused are senior students of the college.

    The incident has triggered outrage, drawing comparisons to the rape and murder of a medical intern inside RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata last August, which had also caused a political storm.

    Social media profiles linked to the prime accused suggest he is the former president of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) unit at the college and the current organising secretary of the TMCP’s South Kolkata wing.

    New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against seven accused, including three absconders, in connection with the grenade attack on Ghani Ke Bangar police station in Batala, Gurdaspur, in December 2024.

    Officials said Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) activists Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Pasia, and Gurpreet, alias Gopi, had claimed responsibility for the attack in a post on social media.

    Pasia, who is based in the US, along with Pakistan-based terrorists Harvinder Singh, alias Rinda, and Shamsher Singh, alias Shera alias Honey, are currently absconding and have been named in the charge sheet filed by the NIA in a Mohali court on Thursday.

    According to a statement issued by the NIA, the four arrested accused named in the charge sheet are Kuljit Singh, Abhijot Singh, Gurjinder Singh, and Shubham, all residents of Qila Lal Singh village in Batala.

    The seven accused have been charge-sheeted under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and other relevant sections for their alleged role in the conspiracy and execution of the December 12, 2024, attack.

    Ludhiana: The body of a man was recovered from a blue plastic drum in Ludhiana’s Sherpur area, triggering suspicion of a well-planned murder. According to police, the body was found wrapped in a plastic sack with the neck and leg tied with a rope. Locals alerted the police after noticing a foul smell coming from the area.

    Kulwant Kaur, Station House Officer of Division Number 6, said that the deceased appears to be a migrant. “The body has been sent to the mortuary of the civil hospital for postmortem. No visible injury marks have been found so far, but the condition of the body is deteriorated,” she said.

    Police believe the murder was premeditated, as the drum used to dispose of the body was brand new. Ludhiana has around 42 drum manufacturing units, and a list of these companies has been compiled as part of the investigation.

    A large-scale probe is underway in a five-kilometre radius of the crime scene. CCTV footage, including Safe City surveillance cameras and those at railway stations and bus stands, are being reviewed. The police are also tracking suspicious vehicle movements from Ladowal toll plaza to Sherpur.

    Jalandhar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday carried out raids at six to seven locations in Jalandhar, including a rented house in the city’s posh Friends Colony area. The raids began early in the morning around 7 am, with the NIA teams accompanied by district police personnel.

    Though officials have not issued any official statement yet, sources said that a man residing on rent in Friends Colony is being questioned. He has reportedly been living at the location for a considerable time. Access to the house has been restricted, with police deployed outside the premises to maintain security.

    Sources in the NIA revealed that the team has recovered several documents and digital devices from the site. The man’s mobile data is also being examined, and investigators are looking into his contacts and communication history.

    If the individual does not cooperate during questioning, officials may take him into custody for further investigation. NIA officials are expected to release more information about the operation in the coming hours.

    Mansa: A mobile phone, Rs 2,500 in cash, and suspected narcotics were recovered from Bajinder Singh, a self-styled godman serving a life sentence in a rape case, during a search operation at Mansa district jail, police said on Sunday.

    The recovery was made on Tuesday during a joint raid conducted by jail authorities and local police. An FIR has been registered based on a complaint filed by the assistant superintendent of the jail.

    According to officials, the presence of drugs and a mobile phone raises serious questions about lapses in prison security and potential collusion by insiders.

    Mansa DSP Buta Singh Gill said, “We are investigating how he got the mobile phone and who gave it to him in jail.” Bajinder Singh was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in April this year in connection with a high-profile rape case registered in 2018.

    He was known to attract a large following from Punjab and neighbouring states, where he regularly held religious sermons before his conviction.

    Faridkot: A shocking case of brutality by drug smugglers has come to light in village Nawan Purba, located on Faridkot Road, where a minor boy was allegedly abducted and assaulted over suspicion of leaking information to the police.

    The victim, Vishal, a daily wage labourer, said he was picked up by a group of smugglers and their accomplices a few days ago, shortly after the police arrested some drug peddlers from his village.

    Suspecting him of tipping off the authorities, the smugglers allegedly took him to a nearby village, Rukna Mungla, and thrashed him brutally after putting red chilli powder in his eyes.

    The attackers also stripped him half-naked and filmed the assault. The video was later circulated on social media, which led to the matter coming to light. The incident reportedly occurred three to four days ago and has sparked outrage in the region.

    Due to fear, Vishal had initially remained silent about the assault. He said his father is deceased, his mother is hospitalised, and he has a younger sister to look after. He claimed he has been living under constant threat from the accused.

    Police have launched an investigation into the matter following the viral video.

    Amritsar News: Investigations by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the FIR no. 02 of 2021 registered in Police Station Punjab State Crime and the Vigilance Bureau reveal massive laundering of drug money facilitated by Bikram Singh Majithia. Preliminary investigations reveal that more than Rs. 540 crores of drug money has been laundered through several ways, including
    (i) Huge unaccounted cash worth Rs. 161 crores deposited in bank accounts of companies controlled by Bikram Singh Majithia,
    (ii) Channelization of Rs. 141 crores through suspected foreign entities,
    (iii) Excess deposition of Rs. 236 crores without disclosure/explanation in company financial statements, and
    (iv) Acquisition of movable/immovable assets by Bikram Singh Majithia without any legitimate source of income.

    A Punjab Vigilance Bureau spokesperson stated here today that the Vigilance Bureau has registered a case based on a report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating FIR No. 02, dated 20-12-2021 registered u/s 25, 27-A and 29 NDPS Act 1985, PS Punjab State Crime, SAS Nagar wherein substantial evidence has been uncovered indicating massive laundering of drug money by Bikram Singh Majithia.

    These transactions are being investigated by the Vigilance Bureau and the investigations done by the S.I.T. clearly indicate that these funds were laundered drug money funneled into Saraya Industries facilitated by Bikram Singh Majithia.

    The VB spokesperson added that so far, Rs. 540 Crores drug money has been tracked as having been generated illegally and by using the influence of Bikram Singh Majithia as a Public Servant being an MLA and holding a Cabinet post in erstwhile Punjab Government.

    The VB spokesperson stated that assets, including both immovable/movable in the name of Bikram Singh Majithia and his wife Genieve Kaur have increased substantially for which no legitimate source of income has been provided.

    According to the VB spokesperson, searches and seizures have been conducted by the SIT of 22 persons and by the Vigilance Bureau at 03 locations which have yielded over 30 mobile phones, 05 laptops, 03 ipads, 02 desktops, several diaries, many property documents and many documents of Saraya Industries.

    The spokesperson stated that Bikram Singh Majithia has been arrested by the Vigilance Bureau in accordance with law after following due procedure.

    Investigations are ongoing and more arrests, searches and seizures would take place. The investigations would be taken to their logical conclusion by submitting all collected evidence before the court of competent jurisdiction for judicial verdict.

    Gangster Romil Vohra killed in encounter on Delhi-Haryana border, two STF personnel injured

    Gurugram: The Haryana Special Task Force (STF) shot dead wanted gangster Romil Vohra in an encounter near the Delhi-Haryana border in Gurugram.

    Two STF personnel were injured in the crossfire and have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

    Romil Vohra was facing serious charges, including a triple murder case in Yamunanagar and the killing of Shantanu in Kurukshetra.

    He had been on the police radar for a long time and was wanted in multiple criminal cases. The encounter was confirmed by Ambala STF DSP Aman Kumar.

    According to police records, Vohra was an active shooter associated with the notorious Kala Rana–Noni Rana gang, which has links to the Lawrence Bishnoi network. He reportedly joined the gang around eight months ago.
