NIA arrests Nabha jailbreak accused Kashmir Singh Galwaddi in major anti-terror operation

New Delhi: In a major crackdown on terror networks, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrested notorious Ludhiana-based terrorist Kashmir Singh Galwaddi from Motihari in Bihar.

Galwaddi was one of the six criminals who escaped from Punjab’s high-security Nabha jail in 2016 and is also the main accused in the Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) attack on the Punjab Police Intelligence Office in Mohali in 2022.

According to the NIA, Galwaddi is a close associate of international terrorist Harwinder Singh alias Rinda, a key figure in the Babbar Khalsa outfit.

Officials said Galwaddi was not only involved in planning conspiracies but also played a critical role in providing shelter, logistical support, and funds to the terror network.

He was declared a proclaimed offender by a special NIA court, which had announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for information leading to his arrest.

The NIA had taken over the investigation in August 2022. The probe revealed the involvement of outfits such as Babbar Khalsa, Khalistan Liberation Force, and the International Sikh Youth Federation.

The agencies also found links between these organisations and organised crime gangs, with evidence suggesting that weapons and explosives were being smuggled from Pakistan into India.

He added that as soon as the police received information, a team from Division Number 8 rushed to the scene.

Although no suspects have been identified yet, police have launched an investigation to track down those responsible for causing public alarm and attempting to disturb peace in the city.
