BKU Rajewal’s Chandigarh march gathers momentum, farmers raise water rights and FTA demands

Chandigarh: A massive motorcycle and car rally led by Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Rajewal president Balbir Singh Rajewal reached Chandigarh’s Sector 34 Exhibition Ground on Monday, with hundreds of farmers participating in the protest.

As the convoy arrived, the area echoed with slogans raised by farmers demanding the protection of Punjab’s water rights, changes to the state’s revised land pooling policy and opposition to the proposed India-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Addressing the gathering, farmer leaders criticised both the Centre and the Punjab Government, alleging that key agricultural issues and farmers’ concerns were being ignored.

The rally had earlier begun from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nature Park in Phase 8, Mohali, where hundreds of BKU Rajewal members and farmers from across Punjab assembled before proceeding to Chandigarh in a convoy of motorcycles and cars.

Throughout the march, participants raised slogans against the Centre and the Punjab Government while reiterating their demands for safeguarding Punjab’s water resources, adopting a farmer-friendly land pooling policy and opposing the proposed trade agreement with the United States.
