First Punjab visit after BJP switch: Raghav Chadha joins closed-door poll strategy session

Chandigarh: Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and now BJP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha visited Punjab on Sunday for the first time after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Chadha attended a high-level closed-door meeting in Ludhiana chaired by BJP national leader Nitin Nabin. The meeting was attended by former and sitting BJP MLAs, as well as current and former Members of Parliament from the party.

According to sources, Nitin Nabin sought detailed feedback from Chadha regarding Punjab’s political landscape and the party’s preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections. Chadha’s participation in the meeting is being viewed as significant given his extensive experience in Punjab politics.

Chadha played a key role as a chief strategist in AAP’s historic victory in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections and is considered to have a deep understanding of the state’s electoral dynamics and constituency-level equations.

However, following political developments within AAP, Chadha was removed from the post of deputy leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha on April 2. Subsequently, on April 24, he joined the BJP along with six other Rajya Sabha MPs.

In May 2026, the BJP further entrusted Chadha with the responsibility of chairman of the Rajya Sabha Petitions Committee, underlining his growing role within the party.

Sources indicated that BJP leaders discussed organisational strengthening, constituency-level issues and electoral strategy during the Ludhiana meeting, with Chadha’s inputs receiving particular attention because of his past involvement in Punjab’s political campaigns.
