Washington: Citing national security concerns, the United States has mandated all visa applicants to disclose the usernames or handles of every social media platform they have used in the past five years.

The US Embassy in India issued a statement on Thursday, reminding applicants that the disclosure is a compulsory part of the DS-160 visa application form.

“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of each platform used for the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form. Applicants must verify before signing and submitting that the information provided is accurate and truthful,” the statement read.

The embassy further warned that failure to provide the required information may result in the cancellation of the current visa application and disqualification from obtaining visas in the future.
