Gurugram: Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora suffered a setback on Monday after a Gurugram court declined to grant him bail in an alleged money laundering case. With the latest order, Arora will remain in judicial custody until June 26.
The court had reserved its decision on Arora’s bail application on June 8 after hearing arguments from both sides. The minister has been in custody since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on May 9.
The ED is investigating allegations linked to suspected financial irregularities, including an alleged money laundering case involving around ₹100 crore and a purported fake GST refund scam. During the probe, the agency conducted extensive questioning and carried out searches at multiple locations connected to Arora’s business interests.
The investigation has also reportedly examined transactions and decisions involving government departments and entities linked to the case. Officials from the power sector have also been questioned as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Arora had approached higher courts seeking legal relief following his arrest. Meanwhile, leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party, including national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, had met him during his incarceration. Party workers had also staged protests after his arrest.
The ED investigation remains ongoing, and further proceedings in the case are expected in the coming weeks.
