Six children killed, 29 injured as school roof collapses in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar

Jaipur: Six children were killed and 29 others injured when the roof of a government school collapsed in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district on Friday morning, police said. The incident occurred around 8.45 am at Piplodi Government School in the Manoharthana block while classes were underway.

“There were 35 students in the building at the time of the accident. Six children were killed and 29 others injured,” Jhalawar SP Amit Kumar told PTI. Ten children have been referred to Jhalawar for treatment, with the condition of three to four reported as critical. The children were rescued from under the debris with the help of teachers and villagers, police said.

Manoharthana SHO Nand Kishore said five of the deceased have been identified as Kunder, Kanha, Raidas, Anuradha, and Badal Bhil.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident, calling it “very sad” in a post on X. “My thoughts are with the affected students and their families in this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. The authorities are providing all possible assistance to the affected people,” PM Modi said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma also expressed condolences and directed authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured children.

“May God give the departed souls a place at His feet and give strength to the bereaved families to bear this loss,” Sharma said.

State Education Minister Madan Dilawar announced a high-level inquiry into the incident and directed officials to reach the spot to oversee treatment and relief efforts.
