Bathinda: Local police said that a man and his son allegedly hacked his married daughter and her two-year-old daughter to death with a sickle in broad daylight on Monday. The incident took place near a bus stand in Bathinda district, triggering chaos in the market as people gathered at the spot.
According to police, the victim, Jasmandeep Kaur, was on her way to a doctor with her daughter Ekmanur, who was suffering from fever, and her father-in-law when she was confronted by her father Rajveer Singh, a Numberdar, and her brother Parampal Singh. When she refused to speak to them alone, both allegedly attacked her with a sickle.
Jasmandeep died on the spot, while her daughter succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Her father-in-law, who tried to rescue them, was also injured and is undergoing treatment.
Police said Rajveer Singh was upset with Jasmandeep’s intercaste marriage to Ravi Sharma, which took place four years ago and was never accepted by her family. Continuous disputes over the marriage had strained relations between the families.
The accused father and son fled the scene after the attack. Police have registered a case on the complaint of Ravi Sharma and launched a search for the two. The bodies of Jasmandeep and her daughter have been sent for post-mortem.
