Jalandhar: RTI activist Simranjit Singh was reportedly shot by unidentified assailants near the gate of Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara on Saturday, triggering concern in the area.
According to initial reports, Simranjit Singh was present near the university gate when a group of youths allegedly arrived and opened fire before fleeing the scene. He sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive behind the attack. The victim’s medical condition was not immediately known, and there was no official confirmation on whether he had succumbed to his injuries.
Police reached the spot after the incident and launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the attackers, while CCTV footage from the surrounding area is also being examined.
