PM Modi announces Rs 1,200 crore aid for flood-hit Uttarakhand, ex-gratia for victims

Dehradun: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced a financial assistance of ₹1,200 crore for the flood and rain-affected areas of Uttarakhand.

PM Modi arrived at the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, where he was received by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. He also announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh to the next of kin of those who lost their lives and ₹50,000 to those injured during the recent natural calamities in various districts of the state.

The Prime Minister said that children orphaned during the floods and landslides will be provided comprehensive support under the PM CARES for Children scheme. Modi met the bereaved families, expressed condolences, and interacted with personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and volunteers, praising their rescue and relief efforts.

He assured full support from the Union Government for restoration and rehabilitation of infrastructure in the affected regions.

Soon after receiving the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Dhami said in a social media post, “The Prime Minister’s presence among the victims in this difficult time of disaster shows his sensitivity towards them.”

Heavy rains, cloudbursts, and landslides during the monsoon have caused widespread damage across Uttarakhand, including Dharali-Harsil in Uttarkashi, Tharali in Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Senji in Pauri, Kapkot in Bageshwar, and parts of Nainital district.
