Rs 2 crore cash, gold seized from home Assam civil service officer Nupur Bora

Guwahati: Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nupur Bora has been booked on charges of illegally transferring land belonging to Hindu families in the state’s Barpeta district. The case has triggered a political controversy, with the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Team initiating action against her.

Bora, a 2019-batch ACS officer, has served in several districts, including Barpeta and Karbi Anglong. During her tenure as circle officer in Barpeta, she allegedly facilitated the transfer of government and Satra (religious trust) land to individuals with questionable credentials. A large portion of the land reportedly belonged to Hindu families but was allegedly transferred to Muslims, making the issue more sensitive.

Following the allegations, the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Team raided Bora’s residence. Officials said they seized around ₹90 lakh in cash and gold ornaments valued at over ₹1 crore, taking the total recovery to nearly ₹2 crore.

Bora is currently in police custody and is being interrogated in connection with the case.
