Jalandhar: A clash erupted at Press Club Chowk on Friday, over the ‘I Love Mohammed’ controversy. Around 4 pm, Muslim organizations were heading to submit a demand letter to the police commissioner, chanting slogans of “Allahu Akbar.”
During this, it is alleged that a passing scooter rider shouted “Jai Shri Ram,” which angered Muslim youths. They reportedly grabbed the young man and snatched his keys, leading to a scuffle.
Soon after, Hindu organizations arrived at the spot, chanting “Jai Shri Ram,” while Muslim groups continued their slogans. The Hindu organizations initially blocked the chowk, prompting the Muslim side to leave. To prevent further escalation, DCP Naresh Dogra and ACP Sandeep Sharma intervened and tried to pacify the Hindu groups.
Following the incident, a case has been registered against Muslim leaders Ayub Khan, Nameen Khan, and two others. Hindu organizations have issued an ultimatum, demanding the arrest of the accused by 11 am on Saturday.
They announced that their sit-in will end after two-and-a-half hours but warned that if no action is taken, all affiliated groups will gather at Shriram Chowk.
