Says; BJP’s divisive policies are dangerous for the country
Punjab E News: Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. said that India is witnessing sharp rises in atrocities against Dalits during BJP’s misrule.
In a press statement issued here on Friday, the Cabinet Minister said that since the Narendra Modi-led BJP government assumed power, cases of violence and discrimination against Dalits have increased manifold, especially in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Harbhajan Singh ETO mentioned that recent incidents against Dalits revealed the prevailing anti-Dalit mentality. In one such incident, a shoe thrown at the Chief Justice of India by a lawyer, which not only challenged the law and order situation but also reflected caste based discrimination. Although the Chief Justice showed magnanimity by forgiving the accused lawyer. He said that apart from a tweet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, no orders have been issued for legal action.
The Cabinet Minister emphasized that Rakesh Kishor did not just throw a shoe at the Dalit Chief Justice; he insulted both the law of the land and the Constitution of India. He added that the Chief Justice was subsequently trolled to caste-based abuse on social media platforms, yet no action has been taken by the BJP-led Union Government. This was exposed their anti-Dalit mindset.
Harbhajan Singh ETO further cited the tragic case of IPS Officer Y. Puran Kumar, who was committed suicide after facing caste-based discrimination. He raised question that how the interests of marginalized Dalits can be safeguarded when even those holding high office are not safe.
The Cabinet Minister expressed deep concern that under BJP rule, public humiliation, assault and murder of Dalit youth have become common and atrocities against Dalit girls and women increased manifold. Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. criticized the anti-Dalit policies of the BJP and warned that their divisive approach poses great threat to the country’s unity and social fabric.
