Afghanistan to resume direct flights between Amritsar and Kabul to boost trade ties

NEW DELHI: Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has announced that direct flights between Amritsar and Afghanistan will resume soon to enhance trade and connectivity between the two countries.

Muttaqi made the announcement during a meeting with Indian industrialists at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in New Delhi. The event was presided over by Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahni.

Welcoming the decision, Dr. Sawhney described it as a “historic step,” adding that it would greatly benefit Punjab’s trade and industry. “Due to Amritsar’s strategic location, these flights will establish faster and safer air connectivity between India and Afghanistan,” he said.

He added that the move would boost bilateral trade, especially in agricultural products, dry fruits, fresh fruits, handicrafts, and medicines, benefiting farmers and traders in both countries.
