Chandigarh: A 42-year-old man was killed in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib on Wednesday morning, allegedly by his neighbour. The victim, identified as Amandeep, was attacked with an iron rod on his head while out walking his dog.
Following the incident, Amandeep’s family and neighbours blocked the Ludhiana-Chandigarh highway, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused, identified as Varinder Singh alias Vicky. The protesters said they would continue their agitation and warned that the highway would be closed indefinitely if police failed to act.
Earlier in the afternoon, the family had blocked the highway for two hours before briefly clearing it to hold talks with police officials. However, the protest resumed after discussions failed. Police said traffic was being diverted through nearby villages while efforts were underway to pacify the protesters.
According to the family, the dispute began on Diwali night (October 21) over an issue related to the street outside their houses. They alleged that despite informing police about the tension, no action was taken. The postmortem of the body has not yet been conducted.
