Washington: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as the “best looking person”, a “father”, and a “tough leader”. Trump also hinted that a trade deal between the two countries could be finalised soon.
Addressing business leaders at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, Trump claimed that he had personally intervened earlier this year to prevent a potential nuclear war between India and Pakistan.
He asserted that his involvement helped defuse tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
The US president further claimed that seven planes were shot down during the confrontation and said he personally contacted both Prime Minister Modi and Pakistan’s leadership to ease the situation, linking the resolution to trade negotiations between the two nations.
