Faridkot court raps SI for ‘threatening’ defence lawyers; directs SSP to initiate criminal action

Faridkot: A controversy has surfaced in the court of the District and Sessions Judge in Faridkot during the hearing of a 2023 case related to the alleged suicide of a young couple, after the investigating officer was accused of threatening defence lawyers.

According to complaints filed by the defence, Sub-Inspector Joginder Kaur, who appeared as a witness in the case, allegedly threatened lawyers outside the courtroom after being questioned during cross-examination.

Alleged threat outside courtroom

The incident reportedly took place on February 26, when SI Joginder Kaur’s statement was being recorded. Defence counsels Ashu Mittal and Karandeep Singh Bhullar questioned her about a corruption case registered against her.

Following the cross-examination, the SI allegedly confronted advocate Karandeep Singh Bhullar outside the courtroom and threatened to implicate him in a false case, according to the order passed by the Sessions Judge.

Court directs action

Taking serious note of the matter, the District and Sessions Judge recorded the statement of advocate Bhullar and directed the SSP, Moga, to initiate criminal or departmental action against SI Joginder Kaur under the law and submit a report to the court.

SI Joginder Kaur is currently posted in the Moga Police Lines and had earlier served in Faridkot district. While posted as SHO at Sadiq police station in February 2025, she was accused of accepting a ₹2 lakh bribe from a scrap dealer family in Ludhiana in connection with a theft case.

Following a complaint, a corruption case was registered against her and two of her bodyguards. She was arrested and is presently out on bail in that matter.
