Patiala: Gulab Chand Kataria on Monday expressed concern over Punjab’s rising debt and stressed the need for a balanced budget to maintain the state’s financial stability.
A day after the state budget was presented in the Punjab Legislative Assembly, the governor said Punjab’s debt has reached nearly ₹4 lakh crore. He emphasised that the government must ensure that the state’s revenue remains higher than its expenditure.
Kataria said controlling the growing debt is essential for maintaining the financial health of the state and urged the government to focus on strengthening revenue generation.
During his visit to Patiala, the governor also paid obeisance at the historic Mata Sri Kali Devi Temple. He said he felt honoured to visit the temple for the first time and described it as a major centre of faith for lakhs of devotees.
The governor added that once the ongoing renovation work is completed, the temple is expected to emerge as a major pilgrimage destination.
