Parliament budget session: Amit Shah replies to debate on no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla

New Delhi: A debate on a motion seeking the removal of Om Birla is scheduled to take place in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, with Amit Shah expected to address the House during the discussion.

The motion was moved by Mohammad Jawed of the Indian National Congress and received support from more than 50 Members of Parliament.

Presiding over the House, Jagdambika Pal allowed the resolution to be introduced and announced that 10 hours had been allotted for the debate. He urged members to keep their arguments focused on the resolution and noted that the Speaker had been accommodating in allowing the Opposition to raise the matter.

According to parliamentary sources, as many as 118 Opposition MPs have signed the motion, alleging “partisan behaviour” by the Speaker.

The development comes amid a tense second phase of the Budget Session of Parliament, which has witnessed protests and heated exchanges between the government and opposition parties. Opposition members have also raised concerns about the government’s handling of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
