New Delhi: A total of 34 officers from the Punjab cadre of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) have been deputed for election observer duties in multiple states.
According to the official list, 27 IAS officers and 7 IPS officers have been assigned responsibilities in poll-bound states, including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry.
The officers will serve as election observers to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the electoral process. Their duties include monitoring polling arrangements, overseeing adherence to the Model Code of Conduct, and reporting any irregularities to the Election Commission.

The move comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in five states, where the Election Commission has intensified preparations to ensure transparency and efficiency in polling.
Officials said that experienced officers have been selected for these assignments to strengthen election monitoring and maintain administrative oversight during the polling process.
