Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday announced that a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha will be convened on April 13 to introduce a stringent law to curb incidents of sacrilege in the state.
The announcement came after a key meeting with members of the Sant Samaj at the Circuit House in Amritsar, where discussions were held on safeguarding the sanctity of religious scriptures.
Mann said the state government is committed to protecting religious sentiments and ensuring strict punishment for those involved in acts of sacrilege. He asserted that no one would be spared if they attempt to hurt the faith of Punjabis.
Emphasising the spiritual significance of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the chief minister said it is revered as the eternal Guru, imparting values of truth, service and humanity. He added that the proposed law would aim to uphold the dignity and traditions associated with Punjab’s religious heritage.
The move comes amid rising concerns over sacrilege incidents, with the government seeking to send a strong message through legislative action.
