Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Writes to Home Secretary and DGP for Action Against SP for Non-Compliance with Commission Order

Punjab E News (April 9): Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman S. Jasvir Singh Garhi has written to the Punjab Home Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP), directing them to take action as per rules against an SP-rank police officer for failing to comply with a Commission order.

A spokesperson Punjab State schedule casts commission provided details, stating that complaint No. K(G) 113/25 was received from Dharam Chand, son of Karta Ram, of Jhungian village, Tehsil Balachaur, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district. The complaint sought justice for caste-based abuse, assault, molestation, an attack on the complainant’s house, an assault with sharp weapons, and the cancellation of a false FIR.

The spokesperson added that the Commission initiated an investigation under Section 10 of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Commission Act, 2004. To this end, the Commission sent five letters to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar—dated January 14, 2026; January 30, 2026; February 17, 2026; February 24, 2026; and April 7, 2026—summoning a report from SP (D) Iqbal Singh personally.
However, the officer failed to appear before the Commission even once. Treating this as a serious dereliction of duty, the Commission has invoked the Punjab Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1970, against SP ( D)Iqbal Singh of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and directed the appropriate authorities to submit the complete report to the Commission office by April 16, 2026.
