London: A jury in the United Kingdom has convicted a 23-year-old Sikh martial arts instructor of murdering an 18-year-old university student during a fatal stabbing incident in Southampton.
The accused, Vickrum Digwa, was found guilty of the murder of Henry Nowak following a trial that examined the circumstances surrounding the attack.
According to court proceedings, the victim sustained multiple stab wounds during the incident and later died from his injuries. Prosecutors told the court that the attack was unprovoked and involved the use of a ceremonial blade carried by the accused.
Evidence presented during the trial included video footage recorded shortly before the incident, as well as witness statements and forensic findings. The court heard that the victim suffered several stab wounds and collapsed shortly after emergency services arrived.
Investigators said initial claims made at the scene regarding the circumstances of the altercation were later challenged by evidence gathered during the investigation. The prosecution argued that the facts established during the trial contradicted the accused’s version of events.
Digwa was known locally as a gatka instructor and youth figure associated with community activities in Southampton. Following the verdict, authorities said sentencing will take place at a later date.
The case attracted significant public attention in the UK due to the circumstances of the attack and the issues raised during the investigation and trial.
