Morena: A tragic incident unfolded in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district on Sunday after a rumour of a fire aboard the Udaipur Intercity Express triggered panic among passengers, leading to the deaths of four people.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 4:15 pm near Hetampur railway station when passengers travelling on the Udaipur Intercity Express reportedly heard claims that a fire had broken out on the train. In the ensuing panic, several passengers jumped off the moving train.

As passengers landed on an adjacent track, they were struck by the approaching Patalkot Express, resulting in multiple casualties.

Police and railway officials rushed to the scene and immediately launched rescue and relief operations. Sarai Chhola police station SHO K.K. Singh confirmed that the bodies of three women and a child had been recovered.

The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Afreen, 4-year-old Asad, 60-year-old Shakuntala and 58-year-old Veerma Devi.

Authorities said the Udaipur Intercity Express was travelling from Morena towards Dholpur when the rumour spread near Hetampur station. Preliminary investigations indicate that there was no actual fire on the train, but the panic caused passengers to take desperate action.

Railway and police officials are investigating the circumstances that led to the rumour and the subsequent tragedy. Further details are awaited.
