Hisar: DSP Jai Bhagwan faced humiliation during Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan’s show at Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) in Hisar, Haryana. The incident occurred when the DSP, posted in the Siwani block of Bhiwani district, attended the event after purchasing the most expensive ticket worth Rs 8,000 and took a seat in the front row.

Towards the end of the show, as Gurdas Maan sang the song ‘Main Haryana Ka Jat’, DSP Jai Bhagwan stood near the stage and began dancing. However, bouncers present at the venue grabbed him by the arm and pushed him away.

Despite revealing his identity as a DSP, the bouncers allegedly refused to listen and an argument ensued.

Gurdas Maan had specially dressed in a traditional Haryanvi dhoti-kurta and white turban for the performance. Several administrative officers were also present at the event, including Barwala SDM Ved Prakash Bainiwal, Red Cross Secretary Ravindra Lohan, and Hansi SDM Rajesh Khoth.

Under ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, major crackdown launched by Commissionerate Police to cut off drug supply : CP Dhanpreet Kaur

Jalandhar News: In a major action under the Punjab Government’s aggressive ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) campaign, Commissionerate Police Jalandhar demolished illegal constructions made by drug smugglers in village Lakhanpal, a locality long notorious as a major drug hotspot.

Leading the operation, Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur said that village Lakhanpal, traditionally infamous for rampant drug sale and supply, had been under close surveillance. Acting swiftly, a joint team of the Panchayat Department and Jalandhar Commissionerate Police razed unauthorized structures built on government land by known drug peddlers. The action, focused on cutting the roots of the drug network, marks a significant step in reclaiming the area from the clutches of narcotics.

Police investigations revealed that the primary accused who encroached the Government land, Hardeep Singh alias Deepa— a history-sheeter — had 9 cases registered against him, including 7 under the NDPS Act. His father Sarbjit Singh and brother Sandeep alias Sonu also faced two criminal cases each.

Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said the demolished encroachment was being misused by drug peddlers to cross over rooftops and escape during police raids. “By removing these illegal structures, we have curtailed their escape routes. We intend to intensify our raids further and clean the village of its bad name once and for all,” she asserted.

Earlier, during the crackdown in this drug hotspot, nine drug peddlers were arrested, while several others fled, leaving their homes locked. In addition to the arrests, the police have identified two properties for freezing under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act to further tighten the noose around drug traffickers.

Highlighting the collective resolve against drugs, the village panchayat of Lakhanpal also passed a formal resolution banning the sale and consumption of drugs within the village, extending full support to the government’s anti-drug campaign.

The CP reiterated the commitment of the Commissionerate Police to eradicate drugs from the roots and appealed to citizens to come forward with information. She urged people to share any drug-related tips on the Punjab Government’s dedicated WhatsApp number 9779-100-200, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.

The residents of Lakhanpal welcomed the bulldozer action against the drug mafia, expressing hope for a safer and drug-free future for the village.

New Delhi: The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has shaken the world, prompting the Home Ministry to hand over the investigation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Disturbing videos of the attack have emerged, leaving viewers horrified.

Investigative agencies claim that several local residents were involved in the attack. Through electronic surveillance, at least 15 Kashmiri Overground Workers (OGWs) and terrorists who supported Pakistani militants have been identified. Officials said the suspects arranged logistics and stored weapons smuggled from Pakistan.

Sources said that agencies attempted to apprehend five main accused, three of whom have been detained. Police are searching for the remaining two OGWs, who were reportedly present in the area on the day of the attack.

Their mobile phones were active, and electronic surveillance indicated they communicated about Pakistani terrorists.

At least 200 OGWs have been detained for questioning so far. Sources added there is strong evidence linking the five key accused to the attack. Teams from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Intelligence Bureau, RAW, and NIA are jointly interrogating them.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police have compiled a list of 15 individuals from south Kashmir who have allegedly supported terrorists and played active roles in attacks over the past few years. These individuals are accused of arranging food, weapons, and logistical support for terrorists operating in forested areas.

Four killed, hundreds injured in explosion at southern Iran port

Tehran: A powerful explosion and fire at a port in southern Iran killed four people and injured at least 516 others, authorities said on Saturday. Babak Mahmoudi, head of the country’s rescue organization, made the announcement on state television.

The port, which handles about 80 million tonnes of cargo annually, is the Islamic Republic’s main container shipment destination. Social media videos showed plumes of black smoke rising after the explosion, with some footage capturing shattered glass panes several kilometres away from the blast site.

Authorities have not yet provided a cause for the explosion, though videos suggest the fire involved highly flammable material. State television reported that no energy infrastructure was damaged.

Industrial accidents are frequent in Iran, particularly at aging oil facilities affected by international sanctions. However, officials emphasized that Saturday’s explosion did not impact any oil or gas infrastructure.

The blast occurred as Iran and the United States met in Oman for the third round of talks on Tehran’s rapidly advancing nuclear program.

Bizarre: UK man unknowingly buys back his stolen car for Rs 22 lakh

London: A British man ended up buying his own stolen car for Rs 22 lakh after it resurfaced with a new number plate. Ivan Valentine, a 36-year-old software engineer from Solihull in West Midlands, had lost his black Honda Civic to theft in February this year.

Despite filing a police report, officers told him the chances of recovering the vehicle were low. His insurance company later compensated him for the loss, after which he purchased another black Honda Civic for £20,000 (approximately Rs 22 lakh).

However, strange similarities between the new car and his old one soon caught his attention.

According to a media report, Valentine noticed familiar items inside the car — a tent peg, pine needles, and chocolate bar wrappers — that hadn’t been cleaned. The number plate was different, and the odometer showed fewer miles, but suspicions grew.

Upon checking the built-in GPS, he discovered saved locations for his home and parents’ address, confirming his suspicion — he had unknowingly repurchased his own stolen vehicle.

“At first, I felt proud, like I’d won something. But then I realised it wasn’t a good deal,” Valentine said.

  • Punjab government suspends Vigilance Chief, SSP and AIG over driving licence scam

Punjab government suspends Vigilance Chief, SSP and AIG over driving licence scam

Chandigarh: In a significant move under its anti-corruption drive, the Punjab government has suspended Vigilance Bureau Chief Director Surinder Pal Singh Parmar. Alongside him, SSP Vigilance Swaranpreet Singh and AIG Harpreet Singh have also been suspended.

This marks the first time a vigilance chief has faced such action in the state. Officials said the decision reflects the government’s firm stance on tackling corruption.

Parmar, a 1997-batch IPS officer, had assumed charge as vigilance chief on March 26. The action against him comes nearly a month later, after Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was informed about the alleged lapses in the handling of the driving licence scam. Mann immediately ordered action, sources said.

According to an official spokesperson, the suspension is linked to attempts to stall proceedings in the licence scam. On April 7, vigilance teams had raided Regional Transport Authority (RTA) offices and driving test centres across Punjab, resulting in the registration of 16 police cases and seizure of Rs 40,900.

Sources said Parmar failed to act decisively during the investigation, allowing several accused to evade arrest. The suspension of top vigilance officials, observers say, is intended to send a strong message about accountability and the seriousness of the government’s anti-corruption campaign.
