    New Delhi: A Delhi court has ordered the registration of an FIR against Law Minister Kapil Mishra in connection with the 2020 riots in the national capital.

    Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia said the allegations appear serious and that Mishra’s presence at the site could not be ruled out, warranting further inquiry.

    “It is clear that Kapil Mishra was in the area at the time of the incident… which requires further investigation,” the court said.

    The court directed the Delhi Police to submit a report by April 16, the next hearing date. The 2020 Delhi riots left at least 53 people dead and over 700 injured.

    Chandigarh: A court has sentenced pastor Bajinder Singh to life imprisonment in a 2018 rape case. On March 28, a Mohali court found him guilty of sexual assault and announced that the sentence would be pronounced on April 1.

    The case involves allegations by a Zirakpur-based woman, who accused the pastor of forcing her into a relationship on the pretext of taking her abroad. She also alleged that he made an obscene video of her.

    An FIR was registered on April 20, 2018, at Zirakpur police station under various sections of the IPC and the IT Act.

    Along with Bajinder Singh, five others—pastor Jatinder, pastor Akbar, Sattar Ali, and Sandeep Pehalwan—were also named in the case.

  • JALANDHAR RURAL POLICE CRACKS HIGHWAY ROBBERY CASE IN 24 HOURS; 02 HELD

    Punjabi News: In a major breakthrough, Kartarpur Police Station of Jalandhar Rural Police has solved a robbery case within 24 hours, recovering Rs. 2 lakh and seizing the vehicle used in the crime.

       The arrested accused have been identified as Karanjit Singh, son of Mukhtar Singh, resident of Chhabalwadi, Police Station Khilachia, District Amritsar, and Satnam Singh, son of Sohan Lal, resident of village Bachde, Police Station City Tarn Taran, District Tarn Taran.

    Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that following the report of the robbery, special teams were immediately constituted to track down the perpetrators. He emphasized that the quick resolution of this case sends a strong message to criminal elements operating in the area.

         The successful operation was carried out under the supervision of Jasroop Kaur Bath IPS, Superintendent of Police (Investigation), and Mr. Surinder Pal DSP Kartarpur. The investigating team was led by SHO of Kartarpur Police Station, who worked diligently to crack the case.

    The case details reveal that on January 30, 2025, at around 5:00 AM, the complainant Arman Sood, son of Ramesh Sood, resident of Bhikhiwind Road, was standing near Vaishno Dhaba with his brother Rishav Sood. The victim, who was preparing to travel to Australia, was carrying his passport and Rs. 3 lakh in cash. Two individuals in an Alto car (PB02-EQ-3186) threatened the victim and fled with the money and passport.

        The preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had carefully planned the robbery after identifying their target. They had been monitoring the movement of people carrying substantial amounts of cash in the area. The Alto car used in the crime was also recovered, which has provided additional leads for investigating similar incidents in the region.

    The arrested accused will be produced in the local court and their police remand will be sought for further investigation.

         The investigating team believes that the interrogation may lead to the recovery of the remaining amount and possibly uncover the accused’s involvement in other similar crimes.

    “We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against street crime,” said SSP Khakh, “and this quick resolution demonstrates the Jalandhar Rural Police commitment to public safety.

  • Amritsar police secure five-day remand of Akashdeep Singh in Ambedkar statue desecration case

    Chandigarh: Amritsar police have secured a five-day remand of Akashdeep Singh, accused of desecrating the statue of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar on Heritage Road. The police informed the court that the accused had also burnt a flag in Bathinda, which is yet to be recovered.

    According to to Advocate Anil Kumar Cheema, representing the Dalit community, the police are still searching for another flag that Akashdeep allegedly intended to burn in Bathinda.

    Preliminary investigations suggest that he was brainwashed in Dubai and sent to Punjab to disrupt communal harmony.

    The incident occurred on January 26, when the accused allegedly set fire to the tricolour under Ambedkar’s statue before climbing it with a hammer.

    ACP Central Jaspal Singh said that a mobile phone recovered from Akashdeep has been sent for forensic examination to trace his communications. Meanwhile, individuals linked to him are being questioned.

    ACP Jaspal Singh declined to disclose further details, citing the ongoing investigation.

  • Woman returns from Canada to India in search of boyfriend, files complaint for deception

    Amritsar: A young woman from Ambala has returned to India from Canada in search of her boyfriend, accusing him of deception.

    The woman alleged that Khushbir Singh, a resident of Suro Para village in Amritsar, cheated on her after they had been in a live-in relationship in Winnipeg, Canada.

    According to the complaint filed with Mehta police, the woman claimed that after they returned to India, Khushbir called her to Mehta on January 21 and engaged in physical relations with her on the promise of marriage. However, he later refused to marry her and is now preparing to wed someone else.

    Following her complaint, police have registered a case against Khushbir Singh under sections 64 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officials confirmed that an investigation is underway.

  • Youth dies by suicide after alleged betrayal in love

    Chandigarh: A young man was found hanging on Gulabgarh Road this morning in a suspected case of suicide.

    The deceased has been identified as Harpreet Singh Bassi, a resident of Jaharpur village who operated a water filter shop in the area.

    According to a post on his Instagram account, he was allegedly distressed over a personal relationship, which may have led to the incident.

    Police have taken possession of the body and initiated an investigation into the matter.

  • Eight sentenced to life imprisonment in Punjab panchayat land dispute murder case

    Chandigarh: A Fatehgarh Sahib court in Punjab has sentenced eight individuals, including two sons of former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Swaran Singh Chanarthal, to life imprisonment in a 2020 murder case linked to a panchayat land dispute.

    The incident occurred on June 24, 2020, in Chanarthal Khurd village, where armed assailants in three vehicles opened fire, killing Kulwinder Singh and injuring four others, including village sarpanch Gurbaj Singh. The attackers were armed with 12-bore guns, revolvers, and sharp-edged weapons.

    The convicted individuals—Gurmukh Singh, Balwinder Singh, Arshdeep Singh, Gurjeet Singh, another Gurmukh Singh, Kulwant Singh, Jagdeep Singh, and Jasdeep Singh—were found guilty under sections 302, 307, 325, 323, 506, 148, 149, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code, along with provisions of the Arms Act. Gurmukh Singh and Balwinder Singh are the sons of Swaran Singh.

    One of the accused was already in custody, while the remaining seven were taken into judicial custody on January 28. The court’s decision on a compensation demand by the victim’s family is still awaited.

  • CIA STAFF JALANDHAR RURAL POLICE ARRESTS TWO DRUG SMUGGLERS WITH 100 GRAMS HEROIN

    Jalandhar News: In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, the CIA Staff of Jalandhar Rural Police has arrested two drug smugglers and recovered 100 grams of heroin from their possession, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, here today.

    The arrested accused have been identified as Karan Kumar alias Karan (22), son of Kulwinder, resident of Ward No. 09, Mohalla Chadi Patti Begowal, PS Begowal, District Kapurthala, and Hansdeep Singh alias Nikka (21), son of Ranjit Singh, resident of Mohalla Arfanwala, PS City Kapurthala, District Kapurthala.

    SSP Khakh said that following specific intelligence inputs, a special operation was conducted on January 27, 2025, under the supervision of SP Investigation Mrs. Jasroop Kaur, IPS, and DSP Investigation Mr. Sarvanjit Singh. Inspector Pushap Bali, In-charge CIA Staff Jalandhar Rural, led the operation which resulted in this significant drug seizure.

    “Acting on credible information about a drug delivery in the Kartarpur area, a special team under SI Nirmal Singh was dispatched,” said SSP Khakh. “The team intercepted an Alto car (PB09-AM-3189) near Maharaja Hotel, approximately 100 meters from Bhulath Mor, Kartarpur. The accused attempted to flee into the hotel but were successfully apprehended by the alert police team.”

    During the search of the vehicle, police recovered 100 grams of heroin concealed in a wax-wrapped packet on the car’s dashboard. The contraband was weighed using an electronic scale at the spot.

    SSP Khakh said that both accused have previous criminal records and were out on bail at the time of arrest. “The accused have been remanded to two days police custody. Their interrogation is expected to reveal crucial information about their forward and backward links in the drug trade,” he added.

    A case FIR No. 17 dated 27.01.2025 has been registered under sections 21B-61-85 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Kartarpur, District Jalandhar-Rural.

  • ED attaches assets worth Rs 5.58 crore of former Ludhiana Improvement Trust chairman

    Ludhiana: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Jalandhar has attached assets worth Rs 5.58 crore, including immovable properties and bank accounts, belonging to former Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) chairman Raman Bala Subramaniam. The action is linked to alleged scams during his tenure.

    The investigation began after the Improvement Trust officials submitted a letter to the ED about alleged irregularities in plot allotments under the LDP scheme.

    The case was initially probed by Punjab Vigilance before the ED took over three months ago.

    In an official statement, the ED confirmed the provisional attachment of Subramaniam’s assets under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

    A case has also been registered against Executive Officer Kuljit Kaur and the New Senior Secondary School Society, Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana.
