    Chandigarh: A 22-year-old woman from Himachal Pradesh, undergoing air hostess training in Chandigarh, was found murdered, with her body discovered in the Bhakra Canal in Patiala.

    The accused, identified as Yuvraj Singh (34), a married policeman posted in Mohali, has been arrested and is in police custody on a five-day remand.

    The deceased, Nisha Soni, hailed from Jogindernagar in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. Her last rites were performed in her hometown on Wednesday, with her family demanding strict action against the accused.

    According to police, Nisha had been studying at SD College in Chandigarh for four years and had recently joined the Frankfinn Institute for air hostess training.

    Her sister, Ritu Soni, revealed that Nisha met Yuvraj five months ago. He had claimed to be a 28-year-old bachelor but was later revealed to be married with a child, with his wife currently residing in Australia.

    Ritu alleged that Yuvraj planned to end his relationship with Nisha before his wife’s return to India, leading to the murder. Authorities are investigating further.

    Chandigarh: A factory owner in the Ekjot Nagar area of Ludhiana has been accused of publicly humiliating a woman, her three daughters, and her son by blackening their faces and forcing them to wear placards reading “I am a thief.”

    The five were paraded through the locality amid chants of “thieves,” following allegations of theft at the garment factory, Deep Collection.

    The incident, which was recorded by some locals and shared on social media, prompted swift police action.

    Inspector Jasbir Singh, SHO of Basti Jodhewal police station, confirmed that a case has been registered against factory owner Parvinder Singh, manager Manpreet Singh, and a worker. The accused have been arrested and will be presented in court on Thursday.

    According to police, the factory owner suspected the woman and her children of stealing clothes after reviewing CCTV footage. They were summoned to the factory, where the owner allegedly carried out the act of public shaming without involving law enforcement.

    The woman later claimed that a youth living with her had stolen the clothes and sold them, and she unknowingly purchased the stolen goods. She also alleged that her daughters were beaten during the incident.

    The Punjab Women’s Commission has taken notice of the matter, issuing a notice to the Ludhiana police and urging immediate action. The case highlights serious concerns over vigilante justice and public humiliation as a response to alleged crimes.

    Mumbai: At least 12 passengers were killed and several others critically injured in a tragic railway accident in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district on Wednesday.

    The incident occurred when the Karnataka Express train ran over passengers who had alighted from the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express following rumors of a fire.

    The accident took place between Maheji and Pardhade railway stations near Pachora, approximately 400 km from Mumbai.

    New Delhi: The Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) has claimed responsibility for two cylinder explosions during the Prayagraj Mahakumbh Mela.

    In emails sent to several media organizations, the group stated the blasts were retaliation for the Pilibhit police encounter, which it described as a “fake encounter.”

    The group referred to the explosions as a warning and a message to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, labeling the incident as “just the beginning.”

    The blasts, which caused no casualties, have prompted an ongoing police investigation. Authorities are working to determine the full extent of the group’s involvement and ensure security at the event.

    Punjab News: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its drive against corruption in the state, has arrested Palwinder Singh, Building Inspector, Municipal Corporation Bathinda and Honey Munjal, an Architect from Bathinda while taking a bribe of Rs. 30,000.

    Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused  have been arrested based on a complainant lodged by Sandeep Singh, a resident of village Burj Mehma, in Bathinda district.

    He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused inspector Palwinder Singh has demanded a bribe of Rs 30000 per file through the said private Architect for passing the plans of complainant’s new colony being set up at Bathinda. As per the complaint the said Inspector has demanded Rs 80000 for three cases otherwise threatening to make objections on the files.

    The spokesperson further informed that after a preliminary enquiry of this complaint a VB team from Bathinda unit laid a trap during which the accused Architect have been arrested red handed while he was receiving bribe of Rs 30000 in presence of two official witnesses. Subsequently, the accused Building Inspector was also arrested. In this regard a case has been registered against both the accused under prevention of corruption act at VB police station Bathinda range. Further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.

  • JALANDHAR RURAL POLICE BUSTS INTER-STATE HEROIN SMUGGLING NETWORK

    Jalandhar News: In a major success against drug trafficking, the Jalandhar Rural Police have busted an inter-state drug smuggling network and seized 50 grams of heroin. Two persons involved in bringing drugs from Jammu & Kashmir to Punjab have been arrested in this operation.

    Police have arrested Sadiq alias Shika, son of Bashir Ahmed from Kakka Kandyala, Tarn Taran, and Muradin alias Muradu, son of Shafi Muhammad from Ward No. 07 near Shani Mandir, Balachor, who currently lives in Cheema Batha Raia, Amritsar.
    Senior Superintendent of Police Harkanwalpreet Singh Khakh, told the media that the operation was carried out under SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Bath, IPS, and DSP Investigation Sarwanjit Singh. Inspector Pushap Bali, in-charge CIA Staff Jalandhar Rural, led the operation after receiving specific information about heroin smuggling in Adampur area.
    On January 19, 2025, acting on a tip-off, CIA Staff team led by SI Labh Singh stopped a Swift car (HR-29-AB-2450) near Nehr Puli Rest House, Adampur. During checking, police found 50 grams of heroin hidden in the car’s dashboard. Though the accused tried to run away, the police team caught them. Police have registered a case (FIR No. 09 dated 19-01-2025) at Police Station Adampur under the NDPS Act.
    Investigation has revealed that the accused would buy heroin at low prices from Jammu & Kashmir and sell it at high prices across Punjab. Their arrest has stopped the drug supply in Adampur and Bhogpur areas.
    SSP Khakh said that the accused will be presented in court for police questioning to find out more about their network. Police are also checking their properties and will take legal action as required.
    Both accused have been involved in crimes before, with cases registered against them at Police Station Pathara and Lambra for theft and other offenses.
    SSP Khakh assured that Jalandhar Rural Police will continue its strong action against drug trafficking to make society drug-free. This operation is an important step in the ongoing fight against drug networks.
