    Punjab News: Adopting zero tolerance approach against corruption, Vigilance Bureau Punjab today arrested Shankar Singh Counsellor, posted at the De-addiction Centre in Civil Hospital Bareta district Mansa for getting a job of Counsellor on the basis of fake degree/certificate.

    Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of Vigilance Bureau Punjab said that action has been taken against accused Counsellor Shankar Singh, resident of village Bhunder Bhaini, tehsil Moonak, district Sangrur after probing the complaint. Degree/certificate of Counsellors and computer Operators who were recruited through outsourcing by Innovision Limited, a private company in the year 2023 were got verified by the Office of the Civil Surgeon, Mansa and it was found that he got the job of Counsellor on basis of bogus degree/certificate.

    A case has been registered against him under different Sections at police station VB range Bathinda and further investigation in this case is under progress.

    Fazilka News: Cross-Border Smuggling Network Busted in Fazilka; One Held With 2.1 Kg Heroin, 7 Pistols

    Fazilka News: Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) Fazilka has busts a cross-border drug and weapons smuggling cartel with the arrest of one accused and recovered 2.1 Kg heroin and seven sophisticated pistols from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.

    The arrested accused has been identified as Gurnam Singh alias Gama, a resident of Bhange Wala (Jhuge Kishore Singh Wala) in Ferozepur. The recovered weapons include one 9MM Glock and four .30 bore pistols and two 9MM pistols along with 10 live cartridges. Police teams have also impounded his Hero Deluxe motorcycle, which was being used smuggling of contraband.

    DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the drone-dropped consignment of heroin and weapons was sourced from Pakistan-based smugglers for executing criminal activities in the state. Further investigations are underway to unravel forward and backward linkages, he said.

    Sharing operational details, AIG SSOC Fazilka Naresh Kumar Dogra said that acting on a specific tip-off, teams from SSOC Fazilka launched a special operation in the area of Jalalabad and apprehended the accused from near village Baghe Ke Uttar in Fazilka, when he was going on his motorcycle.

    During the search, 2.1 kg heroin and three pistols were recovered from his possession, he said, while adding that on his disclosure, four more pistols were recovered from the location pinpointed by the arrested accused.

    In this regard, an FIR No. 02 dated 24-02-2026 has been registered under sections 21C and 25 of the NDPS Act and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station SSOC Fazilka.

    Ludhiana News: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Assistant Sub-Inspector Janak Raj posted as incharge of police post Kailash Chowk, Ludhiana red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000/-.

    Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Civil Line, Ludhiana

    He said that the complainant brother was arrested in a case wherein the accused ASI was the investigating officer. In this regard, complainant alleged that when he went to meet brother in the police station, the accused ASI received as Rs. 10,000/- bribe on the spot for allowing him to meet his arrested brother.

    Furthermore, he informed that accused ASI demanded bribe money rupees two lakh in the name of SHO and rupees fifty thousand for himself in lieu of not getting the complainant’s brother further police remand. The entire conversation regarding the demand of bribe was recorded by the complainant.

    Unwilling to pay any illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau range , Ludhiana. After a preliminary enquiry on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused ASI Janak Raj was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 15,000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.

    In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Ludhiana and further investigation into this case is under progress.

    Jalandhar: In a major incident reported from Jalandhar, a youth was shot outside a private hospital located in Kalia Colony late at night.

    According to information received, the injured youth has been identified as Sourav Singh, a resident of Shiv Nagar, Sodal. Sourav had gone to the hospital to inquire about the condition of a friend admitted there.

    After getting the update and stepping out of the hospital, he was allegedly surrounded by three young men waiting outside. The assailants reportedly opened fire at him, and a bullet struck him in the stomach, leaving him seriously injured.

    The victim’s friend has accused a youth identified as Anmol of firing the shot, although the exact reason behind the attack has not yet been established.

    Upon receiving information about the incident, the police from Police Station Division No. 1 reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the matter.

    Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.

    Gurdaspur: Punjab Police have made a major breakthrough in the brutal killing of two police personnel deployed near the India-Pakistan border, arresting one accused while another was injured in a police encounter.

    According to Gurdaspur SSP Aditya, the arrested accused has been identified as Dilawar Singh, a resident of Alinangal village. The second accused, Ranjit Singh, sustained bullet injuries during an exchange of fire with police near the Purana Shala area.

    Police teams tracking the suspects reportedly intercepted them, following which the accused allegedly opened fire. In retaliatory action, one of the suspects was injured and later taken into custody for treatment.

    The arrested accused is being interrogated to ascertain the motive behind the killings and to determine whether more individuals were involved in the conspiracy.

    Background

    The case pertains to the shocking murder of two police personnel posted near the India-Pakistan border in Gurdaspur district. The incident had triggered heightened security measures across the border belt.

    Reward Policy Notified Day After Bhagwant Singh Mann-Led Punjab Cabinet Approval

    Punjab E News: In a major push to ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make Punjab gangster-free state, Punjab Government on Tuesday notified the ‘Reward Policy of the State of Punjab for the Arrest of Wanted Criminals’ empowering field officers and Head of wings (SDGP/ADGP) to sanction rewards to members of the public whose information leads to arrests, as well as to police officers and officials who carry out exceptional operations.

    The development came a day after the Punjab Cabinet led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has approved the Reward Policy of the State of Punjab for the arrest of wanted criminals to institutionalise a transparent and systematic mechanism for granting rewards, thereby motivating informers and recognising the efforts of law enforcement personnel in apprehending wanted criminals.

    “Under this policy, SSPs will be authorised to grant rewards of up to Rs 1 lakh, CPs and IGPs/DIGs Ranges up to ₹1.5 lakh, Wing Heads up to ₹2 lakh, while the DGP Punjab can sanction rewards above ₹2 lakh,” said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here.

    The policy aims to incentivise both public persons and police personnel for providing credible and actionable information that leads to the identification, location, and arrest of criminals evading the law. It covers a wide spectrum of “wanted criminals,” including absconders, proclaimed offenders, habitual offenders, and accused persons deliberately evading arrest.

    The DGP further clarified that the reward is an ex-gratia payment and cannot be claimed as a matter of right. The quantum of the reward will be decided on a case-to-case basis, taking into account the gravity of the offence, the level of risk taken by the informer, and the overall quality of the information provided, he said.

    To ensure transparency and safety, the policy mandates a structured recommendation process and the immediate supervisory Gazetted Officer involved in the operation must submit a reasoned recommendation certifying the credibility of the information and the specific roles played by the individuals involved. “The identity of people providing information will be protected at all stages,” the DGP emphasised.

    Punjab News: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), in line with the zero tolerance policy adopted by the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab government, has apprehended Sarpanch Gurcharan Singh of village Devinagar (Abhravan) district SAS Nagar for demanding a bribe Rs. 50000/-.

    Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the arrest has been made following a complaint lodged on the Chief Minister’s Anti Corruption Action Line portal. During the verification of this complaint, it came to light that Sarpanch Gurcharan Singh of village Devinagar( Abhravan) of district SAS Nagar demanded bribe of Rs. 1,00,000 in lieu of releasing impounded tractor of complainant from Police Station Bannur. On the request of the complainant who is the resident of village Devinagar, deal was settled at Rs. 50,000/- with accused Sarpanch. The complainant had recorded the entire audio conversation.

    In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB Police Station SAS Nagar range. Further investigation into this case is underway, he added.

    Jalandhar News: In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar has busted a module backed by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) involved in firing incidents linked to extortion with the arrest of its two key operatives and recovered one .32 bore pistol along with magazines and eight cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday.

    Those arrested have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sunny and Rawal, both residents of village Kulam in SBS Nagar.

    DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused persons were acting on the directions of their foreign-based handlers—Gopi Nawashehria, Jassi Kulam, and Sushant Chopra—who are associated with BKI. As per the probe, the accused allegedly fired gunshots twice at the residence of a travel agent in the Garhshankar area to extort money, he said.

    Sharing operational details, he said that in an intelligence led operation, teams from CI Jalandhar has arrested both the accused persons linked to BKI from Jalandhar-Amritsar Highway, near Lidhran underbridge at Suranussi in Jalandhar and recovered weapon from their possession.

    The DGP said that further investigation is underway to trace forward and backward linkages and identify other members of this module. More arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days, he added.

    In this regard, a case FIR No. 11 dated 23.02.2026 has been registered under sections 111 and 61 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25 and 25(1-B) (a) of the Arms Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar.

    Man kills father, injures brother in midnight attack near Bareta in Mansa

    Mansa: A 65-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his son in a late-night attack at Dharampura village near Bareta in Mansa district. The accused also injured his brother before fleeing the scene.

    The deceased has been identified as Gurjant Singh, who lived in the village with his wife and son Sukhpal Singh. According to police, the accused — 45-year-old Rai Singh — allegedly entered the house around midnight and attacked his father with a sharp-edged weapon.

    Gurjant Singh died on the spot due to severe injuries, while Sukhpal Singh sustained wounds while trying to intervene. He has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

    Bareta police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the law and launched a manhunt to arrest him. The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, and further investigation is underway.

    Amritsar News: In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a drug trafficking module with the arrest of three operatives and recovered 6 kg heroin and 6 kg of ICE (Crystal Methamphetamine) from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.

    Those arrested have been identified as Partap Singh, a resident of Village Sursingh Wala in Ferozepur; Ajaypal Singh, a resident of Village Kohala in Amritsar; and Jobandeep Singh, a resident of Village Khiala Kalan in Amritsar. Apart from recovering the narcotics consignment, police teams have also impounded their black-colored Splendor Motorcycle (PB02FE1185) and white-colored Activa (PB02ET8995), which were being used for transporting the consignment.

    DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused, Partap Singh and Ajaypal Singh, were in direct contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler.

    Arrested accused were collecting consignments smuggled from across the border with the help of drones, from the fenced area of villages Atalgarh and Rattan in Amritsar, he said, while adding that the accused were further tasked with supplying these narcotics to other parties in the state.

    Sharing operational details, he said that CI Amritsar had received specific intelligence that Partap Singh and Ajaypal Singh had recently received a huge consignment of drugs via drone and were en route to deliver it to their associate, Jobandeep Singh near the Water Tank Shamshan Ghat in Village Padhri. Acting swiftly, a police team from CI Amritsar raided the location and arrested all three suspects along with 6 kg heroin and 6 kg ICE, he said.

    The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages in this case to expose the full nexus, and more arrests are expected.

    In this regard, a case FIR No. 10 dated 23.02.2026 has been registered under sections 21, 22, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
