TTH claims responsibility for Gurdaspur police killings; Punjab Police dismisses presence

Gurdaspur: Posters allegedly released by a group calling itself Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan (TTH) surfaced on social media Sunday evening, claiming responsibility for the killing of two police personnel at the Dorangla police post near the India-Pakistan international border in Gurdaspur district.

However, senior Punjab Police officials have rejected the claim, stating that there is no known presence of such an organisation in Punjab or anywhere else in India. Authorities said the viral posters are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

The incident pertains to the recovery of two police personnel — Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurnam Singh and Home Guard jawan Ashok Kumar — who were found dead with bullet injuries in Adian village of Gurdaspur district.

Local police teams rushed to the spot after receiving information and initiated a detailed probe. The incident has created concern within the department and the border belt region.

Banarsi Das, Station House Officer of Dorangla police station, said the matter is being investigated thoroughly from all angles. When asked about reports suggesting that the two personnel may have shot each other following a dispute, he said it would be premature to comment as the probe is still underway.

Police have collected evidence from the scene, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause and sequence of events. Officials said no theory is being ruled out at this stage.

  • Pak-Backed Drug Cartel Foiled in Faridkot; Heroin, Pistol Recovered, 6 Accused Arrested

Pak-Backed Drug Cartel Foiled in Faridkot; Heroin, Pistol Recovered, 6 Accused Arrested

Faridkot News: In a major blow to the trans-border narcotic network amidst the ongoing “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign to make Punjab a drug-free state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Faridkot Police has busted a Pakistan-backed international drug cartel with the arrest of six individuals, including an army personnel and dismissed police personnel, and recovered 4.8 kg heroin and one .30 bore pistol along with three live cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Sunday.

Those arrested have been identified as Jarnail Singh alias Goldy of Ludhiana, who is currently serving in the Indian Army; Amardeep Singh alias Boxer (a dismissed PAP cadre employee) and Dimple Rani of Ferozepur; Ramandeep Kaur, Sarabjit Singh alias Sabba, and Amritpal Singh alias Abhijot, all residents of Moga. Apart from recovering the contraband, the police teams also seized ₹30,000 drug money and impounded their two vehicles, including Thar and XUV-500, which they were using for drug trafficking.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the breakthrough is the result of a meticulously planned, intelligence-led operation and a 2-month-long jail-based interception that exposed the deep-rooted linkages of the cartel. Preliminary investigation has suggested that the accused were in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers who were using drones to push heroin consignments into Indian territory, he said.

The DGP said that further investigation is ongoing to establish forward and backward linkages in this case.

Sharing details of the operation, SSP Faridkot Dr Pragya Jain said that on the intervening night of February 20-21, a CIA Staff team intercepted a Thar vehicle near Green Avenue. A search conducted under the supervision of DSP (Faridkot) Tarlochan Singh led to the recovery of 1.008 kg heroin and drug money, leading to the immediate arrest of four occupants.

“During subsequent interrogation, it was revealed that the consignment was supplied by Amardeep Singh alias Boxer in an XUV-500 vehicle. Acting on this lead, police teams intercepted Boxer and his associate Dimple Rani near village Goleana Semnala, recovering an additional 3.796 kg heroin and a .30 bore pistol from their possession,” said the SSP.

Dr Pragya Jain further highlighted that the main kingpin, Amardeep Singh alias Boxer, is a habitual offender with nine previous criminal cases, while other members also have significant criminal records under the NDPS and Arms Acts. The involvement of a serving Army personnel and a dismissed police official points toward a sophisticated network capable of exploiting institutional knowledge for trafficking. They misused their official identification cards for easy passage through nakas and toll plazas. The use of women accomplices in vehicles , also point to well – thought out modus operandi for narcotics smuggling.

The police have obtained remand for all the accused to further investigate the forward and backward linkages, specifically focusing on the handlers operating from across the border and the local distribution points.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 95 dated 21.02.2026 has been registered under sections 21(c) and 27A of the NDPS Act at Police Station City Faridkot.

  • Video shows NRI woman chasing alleged robbers with sword in Ludhiana; police begin probe

Video shows NRI woman chasing alleged robbers with sword in Ludhiana; police begin probe

Ludhiana: A video purportedly showing an NRI woman chasing alleged robbers with a sword on a deserted road near Dehlon in Ludhiana has gone viral on social media, prompting a police inquiry.

According to claims circulating online, the woman, identified as Harjind Kaur and said to be based in Australia, was driving with her mother-in-law and aunt late Friday night when two motorcycle-borne youths allegedly tried to target their car.

In the video, the youths are seen riding close to the vehicle and allegedly throwing eggs at the car’s windshield, a tactic often linked to attempts to distract motorists during robbery bids. As the situation escalates, the woman steps out of the car holding a sword, despite an elderly co-passenger urging her not to confront the suspects.

She is then seen running towards the fleeing motorcycle riders while challenging them. The video was reportedly recorded by another woman seated inside the car.

    Woman narrates incident

Speaking about the incident, Harjind Kaur said she lives in Brisbane, Australia, and had arrived in Ludhiana around 10–12 days ago. On Friday night, she and her relatives were heading to her maternal home via a canal-side road near Dehlon when a motorcycle began following them.

She said that after allowing the bike to pass, the rider allegedly threw an egg at the windshield. Suspecting foul play, she stopped the vehicle and picked up a sword kept inside the car. Despite her relatives’ attempts to stop her, she stepped out and ran towards the suspects, who then fled.

She claimed the presence of the sword deterred the alleged robbers and possibly prevented a crime. The woman also stated that women should learn self-defence skills, including Gatka, to protect themselves in such situations.

    Questions over authenticity

However, questions have been raised about the authenticity of the viral clip. In the 1.10-minute video, the woman’s face is not clearly visible. The alleged suspects’ faces are also not identifiable. At one point, another motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction appears to slow down as the woman advances with the sword.

Social media users have speculated that the video could be scripted, though no confirmation has been made.

    Police response

SHO Avneet Kaur said that after the video surfaced, police initiated an inquiry. Preliminary findings suggest that someone did throw an egg at the car in an apparent attempt to commit robbery, but the suspects fled after the woman confronted them.

Police have registered a case against unidentified suspects and rounded up some individuals for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Canada begins crackdown on gangsters; Goldy Brar among those who could face deportation

Canada begins crackdown on gangsters; Goldy Brar among those who could face deportation

Toronto: The Canadian government has launched a drive to deport alleged gangsters living in the country illegally or on refugee status, a move that could impact several India-linked crime figures, including Goldy Brar, a prime accused in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

According to Canadian media reports, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has prepared a list of 296 alleged gangsters from different countries. Of these, 32 have already received deportation orders from the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.

However, the CBSA has not made public the names of those facing deportation.

    Punjab-linked gangsters under scanner

If Canada proceeds strictly with deportations, several wanted gangsters with alleged links to Punjab — including Goldy Brar and Arshdeep Dalla — could be sent back to India. Punjab Police are likely to arrest them in connection with pending criminal cases upon their return.

Canada has long been viewed as an operational base for members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Several associates of the gang are believed to be residing there.

Extortion, firing incidents on the rise

Reports indicate that Punjabi and South Asian businesspersons in Canada have increasingly been targeted in extortion and firing cases. In Surrey, police reportedly issued advisories in Punjabi to raise awareness about extortion threats.

Gangsters allegedly make extortion calls demanding money and, in cases of refusal, have been linked to incidents of firing outside homes and businesses.

    Khalistan supporters also face scrutiny

Some Khalistan supporters in Canada have also faced allegations of involvement in extortion and firing incidents. Recently, three individuals in Surrey were arrested by Canadian police on similar charges.

With growing concerns over organised crime, the deportation drive signals a tougher stance by Canadian authorities. If implemented widely, it could significantly impact several India-based criminal investigations, particularly in Punjab.
