India reacts after US charges Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar in Nijjar murder case

New Delhi: India has issued its first official response after the United States named gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his associate Goldy Brar in connection with the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India has consistently opposed international organised crime, terrorism and narcotics trafficking, describing such criminal networks as a serious threat to global security.

He said India and the United States have maintained strong cooperation for years in tackling organised crime and terrorism, with law enforcement and security agencies from both countries working closely to address these challenges.

His remarks came after the US Department of Justice announced charges against Lawrence Bishnoi and Canada-based Goldy Brar as part of a broader crackdown on transnational organised crime networks. The US alleges the two were involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Jaiswal emphasised that cooperation between India and the US in countering terrorism and organised crime continues to grow stronger. He said the partnership is based on long-standing coordination between intelligence, investigative and law enforcement agencies.

According to the MEA, the collaboration between the two countries is not a recent development but the result of years of sustained engagement aimed at strengthening global security and combating cross-border criminal networks.
