NHAI revises toll rates at eight plazas in Punjab, Haryana from today

New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revised user fee (toll tax) rates at eight toll plazas across Punjab and Haryana, with the new rates coming into effect from July 14.

The revision will impact commuters travelling on routes connecting Sangrur, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Faridkot, Bathinda, Abohar and Maur, with toll charges for most vehicles increasing by ₹5 to ₹10 per trip.

Under the revised rates, toll charges for cars and light motor vehicles (LMVs) have been increased at multiple plazas, while buses and trucks will also pay higher user fees depending on the route.

Among the revised toll plazas are Shekhpura (Maur-Romana Mandi Highway, NH-254), Khuiyan Sarwar (Malout-Abohar Bypass-Sadhuwali Highway, NH-7), Lehrabega (Tapa-Bathinda Highway, NH-7), Paind (Sangrur-Dogal Kalan Highway, NH-52) and Kalajhar (Patiala Bypass Highway, NH-64), where updated rates now apply for both one-way and return journeys.

According to NHAI, the revision follows an update in its tolling framework, with the Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-linked factor of 1.641 being reapplied for calculating user fees.

NHAI officials said that user fees had been reduced at some plazas last year and the latest revision restores the rates under the updated framework. They maintained that the increase is nominal in most cases.

More than 50 toll plazas across the region have been notified with revised user fee rates, although officials said the hike remains marginal at the majority of locations.
