Jalandhar: Police have arrested the driver of the car that hit 114-year-old athlete Fauja Singh in Jalandhar. The accused has been identified as 27-year-old Amritpal Singh Dhillon, an NRI from Dasupur village in Kartarpur, who had returned from Canada eight days ago.
Police have recovered the Fortuner (PB 20C 7100) involved in the incident. Amritpal was brought to Bhogpur police station on Tuesday night for questioning and will be produced in court today.
Fauja Singh was critically injured in the accident on July 14 and was rushed to a private hospital in Jalandhar, where he died.
His cremation has not yet taken place, as the family is waiting for sons, daughters and other relatives to arrive from Canada to perform the last rites.
