Chandigarh: Just 10 days after his appointment, Vikas Barala — an accused in a molestation case — has been removed from the post of assistant advocate-general (AAG) in Haryana.
The decision comes amid mounting criticism over his selection by the Naib Singh Saini-led BJP government.
Sources in the Haryana government confirmed that the home department has officially communicated the decision to drop Barala from the list of law officers.
Vikas Barala, son of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala, was among the 97 law officers appointed by the Haryana government.
His appointment, which was approved by then Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on July 18, sparked public outrage due to his involvement in a high-profile molestation case.
In a notable move, Subhash Barala reportedly urged the government to withdraw his son’s name from the list.
The appointments were made following an advertisement issued earlier this year by the Advocate General’s office for 100 law officer posts. The selection process was conducted by a five-member committee headed by the Advocate General.
