Chandigarh: An FIR has been registered against popular Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma for performing a banned song during a live event at Panjab University.

Sharma allegedly sang ‘Chambal Ke Daku’, a song that has garnered over 250 million views on YouTube but is among those prohibited by the government for promoting gun culture.

The controversy erupted after a video surfaced from the same event showing Aditya Thakur, a second-year university student, being beaten to death. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Haryana government has so far banned around 30 songs for allegedly glorifying violence and weapons, a significant number of which are attributed to Masoom Sharma. The ban is part of a broader crackdown on content believed to encourage gun culture among youth.
