Rahul Gandhi accuses Election Commission of poll theft, EC demands affidavit

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the Election Commission of colluding with the BJP to rig the Maharashtra Assembly elections, alleging large-scale voter fraud and manipulation of results. The Election Commission has strongly denied the charges and asked Gandhi to submit an affidavit detailing his claims.

Speaking at a press conference, the senior Congress leader said, “Exit polls showed one thing, but the results were completely different. There were more than 40 lakh doubtful voters in Maharashtra. Why is the Election Commission protecting these people? Voting was done in a fraudulent manner.”

He further alleged that more than five years’ worth of voters were added in just five months and that a significant number of votes were cast after 5 pm. “We demanded a digital voter list, but the Commission refused. Our team studied the documents for six months, and we now have proof,” he claimed.

Calling the allegations “very serious,” the Election Commission said they undermine the credibility of the electoral process. It asked Gandhi to submit a sworn affidavit and noted that such claims can only be challenged in the High Court.
