Chandigarh: The Election Commission has announced that the by-election to the Rajya Sabha seat in Punjab will be held on October 24. A notification regarding the bypoll has already been issued.
The seat fell vacant after former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora resigned following his election as MLA from Ludhiana.
Speculation is rife that AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal could be nominated for the seat, but he has clarified in a statement that he will not go to the Rajya Sabha.
AAP spokesperson Neel Garg said the nominee would represent Punjab. “It can be anyone — a woman, a farmer or a common man,” he added.
